You’ve been working hard for months, but now it’s time for a day off. But not a regular day off. Most of the time, my days off are spent taking care of everything else. There are chores to do, errands to run, and whatever else I didn’t do during the week.
But that’s not you, today. Today, you’re going to have a real day off, a lazy day off. A day where that lazy heinie doesn’t leave the couch. Sounds amazing doesn’t it!
But there’s a problem. A truly lazy day, one where you don’t move, that takes some planning. You gotta worry about food, entertainment, electronics…all that stuff. So, here are some great things that help me when I want to take a lazy day.
A lazy day on the couch always means two or maybe three screens. What are you gonna do? Just watch TV? Nah. That’s not really leaning into the lazy. You gotta have your phone or a tablet ready to go, too. Social media isn’t gonna tend to itself after all.
All those electronics means lots of juice, and the high-powered phones we use drain their batteries so fast when the screen’s on. So, if you want to sit on the couch the whole day, you have to plan ahead.
Buy a long USB charging cord, and plug it in before you settle down on the couch. With power flowing freely, you’ll never have to get up to charge your favorite device.
Another great option is a wireless charger adapter. With this, you don’t even have to be active enough to slip a cord into your phone. Just slip it on the charger, and you’re ready to go.
A Couch Fridge
If you wanna spend the whole day on the couch, you’re gonna need to eat. The worst part? The fridge is like twenty feet away. What are you gonna do?
You just need a fridge next to the couch, of course. Some amazing couches come with fridges built into them. Otherwise, you can find a fridge disguised as a coffee table or cabinet. Keep everything you need to eat and in the fridge so you don’t have to get up.
If you got a ton of extra cash to spare, here’s one amazing model, the smart coffee table fridge. Not only is a beautiful, but it’s got everything you need from cooling power to electronics.
The Best Comfy Blanket
No lazy day is truly lazy without a good blanket. If you’re gonna do a couch day, you gotta do it right. Find a nice comfy blanket that matches your personality.
The key on this one, though, is to make it the right blanket for a long, lazy day. Don’t get caught up in the pretty blankets that you might use to decorate a couch. You’re not here to make a decorative statement. It’s supposed to be fun, weird, and comfortable.
If you’re like me, you’ll go all-in on the geeky stuff. Why not have a Dwight Schrute throw or a Darth Vader snuggie. Maybe you want to get a mermaid tail to wrap around your feet. You can’t go wrong with something soft and awesome.
Nothing can make a lazy day worse than having nothing to do, well, nothing to entertain you. A long, lazy day needs plenty of bingeable TV. You’ll need to take a look through your favorite streaming services to find a list long enough to last the day.
If you don’t have a favorite streaming service, don’t fret. The day is not lost. There are tons of great, free streaming channels. Once you’re signed up– some let you watch without signing in– you can watch anything you like.
If you don’t have an internet connected device hooked up to your TV, it’s no problem. Most TV’s have HDMI or VGA jacks so you can hook up your computer, phone, or tablet.
As much fun as full day of TV could be, sometimes you are just done with the screen. Don’t worry, there’s still plenty to keep you entertained while you plant your duff.
Here are a few ways to keep yourself entertained:
- Read a good book
- Adult coloring sheets (all the cool kids are doing them)
- Learn to knit or crochet
- Make some cards for friends
I’m sure you can think of other fun things to do, but these are just a few good suggestions. If you can’t think of anything else, well, there’s the best lazy-day entertainment of all: A good nap.
